Zoo hosts event to let children listen to guinea pig heartbeats

Animals actually use the same stethoscope for auscultation as humans do. At an event for children at Tama Zoological Park, a guinea pig's heartbeat was listened to.

The guinea pig is a rodent native to South America and belongs to the genus Tengi-mouse. They are very popular among children because of their furry fur and docility. What kind of heartbeat does such a guinea pig have? You must be curious, right?

To begin with, can you do auscultation at Nexstetho? The staff was concerned about this, but there was no need to worry. Nexstetho is sensitive enough to allow auscultation even through clothing, so the guinea pig's heartbeat came through the speakers without any problem. Another purpose of using Nexstetho is to let as many people as possible hear it through the speakers. It would be too much work for the guinea pigs if we had to give each child a stethoscope and listen to them in turn. We were able to introduce this system with the hope that all participants would be able to hear the sound of the heartbeat through the speakers.

We look forward to hearing from zoo personnel who are considering similar projects.
