How to make digital recordings of auscultation sounds using Nexstetho and a PC

We have received many requests to record stethoscopy sounds with Nexstetho. There are many ways to do this, but in this article, we will try to digitally record stethoscopy sounds using Nexstetho and a PC using the USB cable provided.

The software we will use is a free digital audio editor called Audacity, which runs on various operating systems including mac and Windows.

Please get it here first.

You can find more information about the basic operation of Audacity on other sites, so please search for them.

What to prepare

  • Nexstetho (SDNX-01 or SDNX-01G)

  • USB cable supplied with Nexstetho (commercially available USB cable for data transfer is also acceptable)

  • Headphones for monitoring voice (Bluetooth or wired headphones with 3.5mm pin jack connection)

Connection to Windows or Mac

Connect as shown below. The headphones for monitoring can be wireless. Connect to Windows or Mac using the USB cable provided with the Nexstetho.

If the connection is successful, the power LED on the Nexstetho will light up and it will be recognized as an external microphone.

Setting up Audacity

Please check if the microphone input is set to "Nexstetho".

When it is confirmed, press the "Rec" button to start recording and display the data.

Useful usage: Mute button and linked recording

This feature allows you to control recording and stopping in conjunction with the Nexstetho mute button.

Call for Collaborative Research

It is possible to digitally record auscultation sounds using Nextate and free software. Please be sure to obtain the patient's permission before recording.

The recorded data of respiratory and heart sounds can also be used for AI analysis. If you would like to conduct joint research with us, please contact us.
